Proposals Manager                                                                            


SvN Architects + Planners seeks a Proposals Manager who understands and values the significance of our Toronto-based multidisciplinary design practice. With over 90 staff, our office includes the disciplines of architecture, urban planning, urban design and landscape architecture. We are heavily motivated by issues of contemporary urbanism which include housing, local placemaking, sustainability and comprehensive transit-related solutions.


The candidate must have superb writing skills and organizational acumen. They should possess a design sensibility commensurate with a growing team pursuing exciting and competitive projects. The successful candidate will take the lead in ensuring that proposals are consistently delivered to a high standard and on time.


Coordinate Proposals and Implement Strategic Pursuits (80% time)

Working closely with the communications team and senior management, the successful candidate will primarily lead the proposal creation process, including developing proposal strategies, collecting, coordinating, and executing what constitutes a successful proposal. This role includes planning, writing, editing, design layout (i.e., InDesign), assembly and time-sensitive delivery of SvN's pursuits. The Manager will assist with organizing key sub-consultants and external team members when required. When working with Partners, Associates and essential team members, initiative will be required when developing critical approaches and thought leadership statements leading to a winning pursuit.


Be a Convincing Storyteller (10% time) 

For past and current key projects, the Manager will track and maintain approaches to design, themes, innovations, critical project outputs and spectacular imagery and develop a coherent and impactful narrative. The candidate will ensure that each project's key concepts and achievements are captured from project initiation to closeout. The role includes developing written and visual content libraries necessary to coordinate "project books" for key projects at critical project milestones and then again at project completion.


Business Development (10% time)

Assist with the development of leads, pursuit and implementation strategies. Research industry trends/competitor activities and analyze how these may impact overall business strategy. Conduct market research and analysis to ensure SvN maintains recognition as an industry leader and subject matter expert.




  • 3+ years of experience in proposal development or similar environment. The ability to efficiently and diplomatically work with a variety of organizational stakeholders.
  • Candidates with previous experience working in design consulting or professional services firms are preferred. 
  • A self-motivated team player who is flexible, demonstrates initiative to go above and beyond the task at hand, effectively multi-task, and can handle shifting priorities within a demanding deadline-oriented environment. 
  • Possess strong computer skills: Proficiency in MS Office and Adobe Creative Suite, including InDesign and Photoshop.
  • A strong command of the English language, with excellent writing skills. 
  • Attention to detail and the ability to proofread and edit material, as well as an aptitude for understanding technical terminology. 
  • Flexibility to work overtime to meet project deadlines as required. 
  • Ability to work in a team environment, working towards common goals and objectives towards common goals and objectives.
