Role and Responsibilities


The role of the Intermediate Landscape Architect is to work with our inter-disciplinary team of planners, urban designers, landscape architects and architects on behalf of both public and private sector clients. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, managing and implementing landscape architectural projects at multiple scales, from integrated site design to streetscape and large-scale landscape strategy.


Working with senior staff, the landscape architect will collaborate in managing innovative, amazing and profitable projects and assist in procuring a mix of public and private sector projects in order to evolve the Landscape Architecture Practice.


Outcomes

  • Deliver design excellence, clear design thinking, and strong landscape-urban design concepts;
  • Develop graphics and text to communicate ideas and further SvN’s role as landscape architects;
  • Conduct research and seek understanding of client needs for landscape requirements and design solution opportunities.
  • Communicate with consultants, sub-consultants and other disciplines to ensure project details are being carried out and to forward integrated problem solving. Provide on-going communication through team meetings/ minutes/ update memos;
  • Develop conceptual and/or framework diagrams, plans, sections, elevations, perspectives (by hand and/or digitally) in a highly graphic capacity;
  • Imbue technical understanding of landscape elements and applicable standards and best practices into the development of work;
  • Prepare project presentations;
  • Deliver final design packages that adhere to design intent.


Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor or Masters Degree in Landscape Architecture;
  • Minimum three years of landscape architecture experience;
  • Exceptional communication, organization and interpersonal skills;
  • Solid technical understanding of/experience with landscape and public realm design, including:
    • Green standards and sustainable design practices;
    • Streetscape design and coordination between landscape and utilities;
    • Integration with land use and the built environment;
    • Transit integration and design;
    • Parks and open space design concepts and detailed development;
    • Application in city-wide scale contexts.
  • Proficiency in graphic tools including AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, and Rhino / Revit. Experience with MicroStation an asset;
  • Professional registration or working towards OALA or equivalent an asset.
