Summary: Grows and develops the firm’s book of business by acquiring new clients, growing existing clients and building SvN’s brand recognition.

As an integrated full-service studio, we guide both public- and private-sector projects. One of SvN's unique strengths is providing design-intensive services that resolve complex urban issues, including land-use regulations, regional infrastructure requirements, and community development.

 

Due to significant growth, we are seeking an experienced Business Development Director to provide strategic guidance and tactical support to develop, manage and grow SvN’s profile and revenue potential. This opportunity will start as a remote working arrangement and transition to a hybrid working arrangement based out of our office in downtown Toronto. 


Role and Responsibilities:


  • Grows and develops the firm’s book of business by acquiring new clients, growing existing clients and building SvN’s brand recognition. 
  • Develops key account plans to grow client relationships, revenue growth based on market conditions and strategic priorities of our clients. 
  • Develops and implement strategies, undertake business development-related client and market research as needed, share best practices, and promote multidisciplinary solutions.
  • Establishes CRM and manages sales funnel from the identification of an opportunity, identifying pursuit team, overseeing proposal development, negotiating and booking commercial agreements.
  • Accountable for full proposal creation process from proposal strategy, writing, editing, layout, assembly and delivery of on time proposals. Manages SvN’s Proposal Manager.  
  • Manages and responds to day-to-day requests for business development support including, but not limited to: RFP submissions, business pitches, advice in relation to strategic client events opportunities, tracking ROI, developing ROI metrics.
  • Leads negotiations on terms and conditions of commercial agreements which ensure profitability and cash flow.
  • Researches industry trends, competitor analysis for incorporation into SvN strategy.
  • Oversees development of case studies, white papers and other thought leadership to promote SvN Brand, alongside the Director of Special Projects. 
  • Contributes to Social Media strategy including optimization and growth of SvN brand.
  • Other duties and support of firm-wide priorities as needed.

Outcomes:


  • Grow Net Revenue in Architecture, Urban Planning, Landscape Architecture business lines by acquiring new clients.
  • Grow Net Revenue and profitability with key clients and developing account plans.
  • Developing sales funnel metrics from identification and qualification of an opportunity, proposal generation and negotiation of an agreement.
  • Increase Social Media engagement – Brand Recognition (ROI Metrics).

Qualifications & Experience:


  • Bachelor Degree in Commerce or Business Administration preferred.
  • Seven years of Business Development experience, with at least three (3) years as a BD/Marketing Manager (or similar senior role) in professional services, ideally in AEC or design.
  • Good at prioritizing, capable of working under pressure and flexible to meet unusual scheduling requirements.
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills; ability to articulate and communicate ideas, analysis and recommendations to the partners of the firm.
  • Self-starter who is part strategist and part tactician. Enjoys thinking forward and bringing the ideas to life.
